Aer Lingus today announced a €45.5 million loss for the first quarter of 2013. This is up from a loss of €36.1 million in the first quarter of 2013. The first quarter of the year is usually loss making. The additional losses were attributed to the start up costs of the Virgin Atlantic “Little Red” wet lease operation and costs to improve the A330-300 fleet. Total passenger numbers were up 2.2% and yield per passenger up by 3.7%.
